Of Kingdoms . . . and The King

This weekend’s service of worship will be for the Twenty-fourth Sunday after Pentecost which, this year, represents the final Sunday in the Church’s calendar. Often bearing the designation “Christ the King Sunday” or “Reign of Christ Sunday”, it represents an opportunity to view the work-of-Christ from a truly “cosmic” (and truly “eternal”) perspective: when the work of Christ will be complete...and God will be all in all.  But surely the faith that proclaims the cosmic-Christ as Sovereign of all creation cannot help but raise questions—far from superficial questions—in the midst of a “multi-faith” world.  While there is no “quickie” way of resolving such questions, surely they must be acknowledged as we celebrate the culmination of one cycle in the Christian calendar, and prepare to begin a brand new year, seven days from now!
